My Son is Certifiably Spoiled

November 22nd, 2005 by kim

I thought I was being such a cool mom this morning rushing my kids off to school early so I could be at Target at 8:00 am to purchase an XBox 360 that was released today. My son told me this is “all he wants for Christmas”. He warned me about the high demand, so I thought I’d be there when the doors opened, but I figured how many other parents spoil their kids with a $400 gadget? Surely, I would get one.

I was so wrong. I guess the line up started at 8 o’clock LAST night, and they drew numbers at 6 am to see who would get one. When I got there at 8:01 am, they were checking out the lucky ticket holders. I sped to ShopKo, thinking they wouldn’t be as busy as Target. Wrong again. Their line up started at midnight. And the stores said they will probably not get any more in before the first of the year.

I had unsuccessfully tried to pre-order one. But I ran back home thinking maybe I could find one online yet to ship in time for Christmas. Nope. The only one I have found is at EBGames, but it is not due to ship out until 2/28/06! And it is $700! And from my research, you do NOT want to buy just a CORE Xbox system as it will not play regular XBox games, and you’ll have to buy all the add-on accessories sooner or later.

My next *brilliant* idea was to check eBay. With the high prices they are selling for on there, I could have made 500% return on investment if I had been lucky enough to puchase an XBox 360 already! And watch out for scam artists, some of the $1000 bidders obviously did not read the fine print in the description, as they are not bidding on an actual XBox 360, but just a stupid email address. False advertising at it’s best.
