My dryer officially died.

February 25th, 2006 by kim

I was hoping my dryer would hang on until I moved into our new house and I’d buy a new one, but that could be up to 6 months before the house is done. Hauling my clothes to the laundry mat for one day was enough for me to go dryer shopping early. Since my washer is only a year old, I didn’t plan to buy a new one of those, and I wanted my washer and dryer to “match” as a set. Only one store near me carries that brand/look of dryer. Got them to lower the price from $369 to $330 for a “cash price”, but still said I’d think about it. Came home and researched online. I could get the exact same dryer from Home Depot for only $299 (although Home Depot is 3 hours away). I called and asked if they would match Home Depot’s price, and they would! So I saved another $30 bucks. When I figure in time and gas, I couldn’t have driven to Omaha and back for $30. So I probably would have paid the extra amount anyway, but they don’t need to know that :)

I seriously think appliances are being made cheaper and don’t last near as long as they used to, just so you have to buy new again! When I moved into this house 12 years ago, my grandma bought me a 10 year old washer from an auction, and it just died last year! I bet my new one doesn’t last over 20 years.
