In Denver, I got to see one of the new RedBox DVD Automated Rental Kiosks in a McDonald’s. I think this inception is brilliant.
You can rent DVD’s for only $1 plus tax per night. After 25 days, if you don’t return the DVD, the charges cease, and the movie is yours to keep. Each Redbox carries 35 - 40 of recent movie titles, with new titles added on Tuesdays. We rented “Derailed”, a movie I had been wanting to see. The great part is that you can return the movie to ANY Redbox nationwide!
And an even greater part is that you can use codes for FREE Rentals! I found these codes (in bold) to use (now if they only had Redboxes in Nebraska!):
APRIL = Free DVD Rental, valid 04/01/2006 - 04/30/2006
FUN &/or JAM = Free DVD Rental valid 4/16 To 4/20
LONDON &/or TENNIS = Free DVD Rental valid 4/23 To 4/27
More Codes (dates valid unknown): ONLINE - GREG - LONN - MICHAEL - 3UNDER3 - 4UNDER4
The Redbox idea is still in it’s “test phase”, but considering the long lines to use it, I think it will go nationwide sooner than later. Looks like Blockbuster may need strategize their customer retention plan.
