My twins had field day today at school. Watching them run around the track reminded me of how much I hated running sprints for track in high school. But I was a decent runner, and I liked collecting track medals to add to my bulletin board.
Unfortunately, I never made it to compete at the state track meet. My senior year, I think I got third place in three events (100m, 200m, 4×100) at districts, but they only take the top two on to state. I was so disappointed. I ventured to watch the state’s best of the best anyway where I idolized the sprinter, Mallory Ivy. I believe she won 4 gold medals all four years of her high school career. I have a newspaper clipping about her in my scrapbook. She’s probably the reason I liked the name Mallory so much, thus one of my twins is “Mallory”. And my Mallory is a decent runner as well.
My sister has better luck than me. She is competing in the state track meet this week as only a junior. I’ll be there cheering her on!
