The U.S. Department of Energy says that “You can easily save energy in the winter by setting the thermostat to 68°F while you’re awake and setting it lower while you’re asleep or away from home.” So, since I’m all about saving money (ie energy), I set my thermostat to 68°F, but this will take some getting used to because I am freezing right now in my double layers of clothing! I need to take the time to figure out how to adjust the settings to turn the heat down while we sleep, so I can I keep it a bit warmer during the day. Or if I get motivated enough to start working out to warm myself up…. I have such a long “wanna do” list!
Luckily my mother gave me some ultra-warm pajamas from JCPenney’s for Christmas, and I changed my bedding to the flannel sheets I got from Amazon (still only $6.99). My washer gave me a scare, so I almost didn’t get my new sheets washed to use. I’m gonna wash another set today to put in the guest bedroom (it’s even cooler here on the lower level), but I gotta wait until I warm up enough to shed the blanket I’m wrapped up in!

Man, you’re not kidding. I was raised in northern Minnesota by parents who were all about keeping that thermostat down, so I’ve always tried to do so also. But…I don’t know if it’s getting older or less activity in winter or what, but I’m freezing also. I wear hoodies in the house, sometimes with the hood up, use lap robes while on the computer or reading or whatever, & still freeze. Used to use an electric blanket, but then started getting really “itchy” somehow. Flannel sheets are good, & piles of blankets & comforters. I’m not even gonna pull the “Alaska” card here, as Anchorage is no colder than most of the midwest, it just lasts longer, & is dark longer. Our winter is from about the beginning of October until end of April or so, although it does start warming up in April in general. Keeping warm inside is a challenge. More power to ya!
