Stamp Prices Rise Forever

February 12th, 2008 by kim

Forever USPS StampLast May, postage stamp rates went up 2¢ to 41¢, and come this May 12, they are going to be raised yet another penny to 42¢!  I’ve been using email and billpay more and more to avoid stamp costs, as I presume many are, thus the reason for an increase.

And I just bought a roll of 41¢ stamps last week!  I wish I would have bought the “Forever Stamps” that will be valid for first-class postage rates forever and sold at the current rate. I may invest in some yet as the post office plans to have an additional 5 billion Forever stamps in stock to meet the expected demand before the May price change.

I remember when I lived in San Diego years ago, I hated to drive all the way to the post office and then wait in line for over an hour to buy stamps, that I paid above face-value of the stamps at the grocery store to save my time and gas.  Too bad we didn’t have the internet back then, as you can now order stamps online at USPS.com (not sure if there are shipping costs).  I guess living in a small town now does have it’s advantages -  no long lines at the post office!

P.S. I got a new phone/fax - Brother IntelliFax-1960c Color Inkjet Fax - and love it!

I found your site on technorati and read a few of your other posts. Keep up the good work. I just added your RSS feed to my Google News Reader. Looking forward to reading more from you.

Love those “Forever” stamps. First heard of them when my sister-in-law sent me a sheet, just to be nice. I was fascinated, & am glad that you have written about the price increase, as this is the first I’ve heard of it. Definitely going to get a bunch more of those “Forever” stamps. I imagine they’ll be very popular.
