Racing to Save Lives

Welcome to my Team In Training home page.

I am training to participate in an endurance event as a member of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Team In Training. All of us on Team In Training are raising funds to help stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma from taking more lives. I'm completing this triathlon in honor of all individuals who are battling blood cancers. These people are the real heroes on our team, and we need your support to cross the ultimate finish line - a cure!

Please make a donation to support my participation in Team In Training and help advance the Society's mission. I hope you'll visit my web site often. Be sure to check back frequently to see my progress.

To those who have already contributed: THANK YOU!! I really appreciate each and every one of you! I've exceeded my fund raising goal because of your help! My new goal is $4,000! I think we can make it!

I also appreciate the notes you've sent. In addition to my team's honored patient Jennifer Ganloff, I'm also running in honor of Margaret Albin, Joyce Wrage, Mrs. Vermerris, Bill Munson, Nate Foucher, Drew Oldham, Harriet Haack, Deda Claire and Linda Bailey.

Training Update 6/21/2005: My training for swimming and biking are progressing well. I need to work on the running! Tonight I ran the mile race at the All Comer's Track Meet in 7:30. Not bad I'd say!

Training Update 6/7/2005: On Sunday Nels and I did a sprint distance (1/4mi swim, 12mi bike, 3mi run) triathlon in Buffalo, MN. The morning began at 4:15am. (Ouch!!) It was a beautiful day, and I finished in 1 hr 27 minutes. Nels' time was 3 seconds faster than mine--even though we started in different waves! Wow was it a lot of fun! And I'm even more excited about the Lifetime triathlon coming up!

Training Update 5/28/05: Nels and I just completed our own "Oberg Triathlon"! :) We swam 1/2 mile, biked 17.3 miles and ran 2.25 miles. We did all of that in about 2 hrs 15 minutes (including ~20 minutes of transition time). The run will definitely be the toughest leg of the race! I do feel like we can finish now though!

Training Update 5/2/05: Saturday Nels and I ran the "Get In Gear" 10K race up in Minneapolis along with 3768 runners!! It was cold, but it was a lot of fun! The adrenaline carried us and we ran <10min miles. I finished in 57min 20 sec, placing 2125 out of the 3768, and 645 out of 1732 females. We learned that on race day we need to pace ourselves, bring a dry change of clothes to the race site, and bring a disposable camera! In the race aftermath, I'm taking a couple of days off to nurse my knees--they are pretty sore!

Training Update 4/28/05: Today I swam 2250 yards in 45 minutes. I hit the 1 mile mark (1750 yds) in 34 minutes 20 seconds. I'm excited by that! (The first leg of the triathlon is just less than 1 mile swim.) And I still have 2 1/2 months to get faster!! :) This Saturday Nels and I are going to run the "Get In Gear" 10K race up in Minneapolis. I'll let you know how it goes!

Training Update 4/10/05: I just completed my first session of brick training on a beautiful 70 degree day! I rode 1 hr 20 min on my bike and then ran for about 30 minutes. It's called brick training because your legs frequently feel like bricks when you run after biking. It's a beautiful day and I made it with EmmaAnn cheering me on "You can do it Mommy! We're almost home!".
